Did you know that Colombia has the most bird species on earth? Yes, it does! A whopping 1,870 species and counting, even more than Peru and Brazil.
If you are interested in seeing some of these species, you should visit the “Aviario Nacional de Colombia in Baru”, about an hour away from Cartagena. There, you can see many species such as the “Rey de Gallinazos”, Condors and beautiful colorful birds such as macaws, peacocks, flamingos and much more.
Things to know:
Entrance fee: $60,000 adults $50,000 children for foreigners and $40,000 adults and $ 35,000 for Colombians and Residents.
Hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (last entrance is at 4:00 pm) They have a bird presentation @ 11:30 am and 3:30 PM (It is pretty cool)
How to get there?: You can hire a private taxi, it cost about $140,000 COP or you can take the public bus from the old town.
Recommendations: Bring a hat, sunscreen, umbrella or a fan, it can get really hot. Also, put bug spray before you get there, they don’t let you put it in the Aviary to protect the birds, which makes sense.
