Things to know:
What to avoid? Vendors will follow you and try to make a sale, just be firm and say “No Gracias” and just keep walking. Unfortunately at night (mostly) you will be asked if you want to buy drugs, just be firm and say no. If they keep on pushing, a loud “No quiero drogas” would do the trick. Don’t be scared, they won’t hurt you.
What to eat? At the Plaza de la Trinidad have one of the best “Chuzos” of the city (Meat on a stick) at $4,500 COP with ”Jimmy”, you can find his stand in front of the plaza, and next door to it buy some cheap beer at the “tienda” (store) "El Guerrero", around $3,000 COP. Restaurants such as La Cocina de Pepina for local caribean food and Di Silvio Trattoria for italian food are great options.
